Last updated: 27 Jul, 2026

This is an installation guide for the GearUP plugin on ASUS Merlin firmware. Please check whether your router and firmware type meet the requirements.

Currently, the GearUP plugin for Asus routers running Merlin firmware can be installed in two ways:

  1. Any Asus router running Merlin firmware can open the GearUP Router App, select "Boost with Router" then "Install router plugin" to install directly. This is our most recommended method.
  2. If you want to install via the Asus router’s web interface, please refer to the following steps:
  • Make sure your computer is connected to the same network as the ASUS router and can access the Internet.
  • Open a web browser and navigate to your device's configuration page by directly enter the domain name (http://router.asus.com or http://www.asusrouter.com) or gateway IP address into the address bar. This will launch the GUI.
  • Enter your Username and Password and log in to the router's GUI. (This is the ASUS router account and password that you created at your first login to the router.)
  • Click [Administration] > [System].
  • Select to enable SSH (you can choose "LAN only" to avoid being scanned by the public network). Currently, the SSH port only supports setting to port 22.
- Log out of your ASUS account at the top of the router web GUI, then open the GearUP Router app on your phone, select the corresponding router, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the GearUP plugin installation.

Note: If you are using iOS 14 or later, please ensure that local network access is enabled for the GearUP Router app.

  • On your iOS device’s home screen (iOS 14 or later), tap [Settings].
  • Tap [Privacy & Security] > [Local Network].
  • Turn on Local Network Access for the GearUP Router App.
