Automatic Installation Guide for the GearUP Plugin on Keenetic/Netcraze Routers

Last updated: 29 Sep, 2026

Once the installation starts, the GearUP App will handle most of the process automatically. You do not need to access the router's management page or manually download or configure any software.

Before you start, please review what will be installed and what to expect during the process.

⚠️ Important: Please use the GearUP Router App version below

To use the automatic installation feature, you need to install the latest test version of the GearUP Router App. This version is not yet available on the app stores.

After installing this app version, you can proceed with the automatic installation of the GearUP Plugin.

1. What will be installed?

The installation includes three parts:

a. Keenetic/Netcraze System Support Components

The GearUP Plugin requires three Keenetic/Netcraze system components. Their names on the router are:

  • opkg: Enables the router to install and manage additional software.
  • opkg-kmod-fs: Provides the file system support required for Entware to use storage.
  • opkg-kmod-netfilter: Provides the network functionality required by Entware and the GearUP Plugin.

These are components provided by the Keenetic/Netcraze system. You do not need to find or configure them manually. The App will automatically check for any missing components and install them. Components that are already installed will be skipped, and other existing system components on your router will be kept.

b. Entware Runtime Environment

Entware is a runtime environment supported by Keenetic/Netcraze. It is used to run the GearUP Plugin and other compatible third-party software.

You can think of it as the foundation for running additional software on your router. It is not exclusive to GearUP and does not replace the existing Keenetic/Netcraze system.

c. GearUP Plugin

The GearUP Plugin is the software that provides router-based acceleration. Once installed, it runs in the background on your router and works with the GearUP App to complete router binding and manage acceleration.

2. Why does the router need to restart during installation?

If your router is missing any of the system support components above, a system update needs to be completed first. The restart is a normal step required by Keenetic/Netcraze to safely apply the new components. It does not mean there is a problem with your router, and it will not reset the router to factory settings.

During the restart, the router's Wi-Fi will temporarily disconnect, and phones, computers, and other devices connected to it will briefly go offline. Once the router comes back online, most devices will reconnect automatically.

If your phone connects to another Wi-Fi network or switches to mobile data, manually reconnect it to the Keenetic/Netcraze router where the plugin is being installed. The App will then continue the installation.

If all required system components are already installed, the App will automatically skip the restart.

3. How will the installation affect my router?

  • It will not reset the router to factory settings or change your existing Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, administrator password, or Internet settings.
  • Entware and the GearUP Plugin will be installed on the internal storage or external storage you select, and will use some storage space.
  • If you use external storage, keep it connected to the router after installation. Otherwise, the plugin may not work properly.
  • Your Internet connection will be temporarily interrupted while system components are installed and the router restarts. Once the installation is complete, the router's existing Internet connection and other functions should work normally.
  • The GearUP Plugin runs in the background. When you need acceleration, you can continue to manage it through the GearUP App.

4. Before you start, please make sure

  • The router is powered on and has a working Internet connection.
  • Your phone is connected to this Keenetic/Netcraze router's Wi-Fi.
  • If you have selected external storage, make sure it is connected and keep it connected after installation.
  • During installation, keep the App open if possible. Do not turn off the router or press the reset button.

5. What happens next?

  1. The App checks for and installs any missing Keenetic/Netcraze system support components.
  2. If necessary, the router restarts automatically.
  3. The App prepares the Entware runtime environment.
  4. The App downloads and installs the GearUP Plugin.
  5. Once installation is complete, continue with router binding to start using the acceleration feature.

6. Important Notes

  • The entire installation process takes approximately 10–12 minutes. The installation may take longer at 0% and 31%. Please wait patiently.
  • If the installation remains stuck at a certain step for more than 10 minutes, please try installing again.
  • Please note that if your router firmware is not the latest version, it will be automatically updated to the latest version during installation. If necessary, make sure you have kept a copy of the previous firmware file before starting the installation.
  • If the installation is interrupted or you see a failure message, first make sure your phone is still connected to this router, then tap Retry.
  • The App will check which steps have already been completed and continue from the appropriate point. You do not need to set up the router again.
