Palworld has many online servers. You can join community servers or create a multiplayer world to explore, catch Pals, and build bases with friends.

But what if you want to avoid relying on public server status and play Palworld directly with friends over a local network? Does Palworld support LAN multiplayer?

Yes, but Palworld does not have a completely separate “LAN Mode” button. LAN multiplayer usually means that one player hosts a multiplayer world or runs a dedicated server on the local network, while the other players connect to it.

Because of this, successful LAN play depends not only on the game itself, but also on the server type, network setup, firewall permissions, and game version.

Two Multiplayer Modes in Palworld

Palworld LAN multiplayer mainly works in two ways: using a multiplayer world or running a dedicated server.

Use a Multiplayer World

This option works well for a small group of friends who want to play together temporarily.

  1. One player launches Palworld and enables the multiplayer option.
  2. The host enters the world and invites the other players through the in-game invitation feature.
  3. The other players accept the invitations and join the same world.
  4. Everyone confirms that they are using compatible game versions.

This method is easy to set up and does not require players to manually configure a server address. However, the world usually depends on the host staying online. When the host exits the game, the other players cannot continue accessing the world.

If you only want to explore the map, catch Pals, or test multiplayer combat with friends, a multiplayer world is usually enough.

Use a Dedicated LAN Server

If you want the world to run independently from a player’s game client, you can run a Palworld dedicated server on one computer connected to the local network.

The basic process is:

  1. Start the Palworld dedicated server on one computer.
  2. Confirm that the server is running and note its port.
  3. Find the computer’s local IP address.
  4. Have the other players enter the local IP address and port in the server connection screen.
  5. Connect to the server and enter the same world.

Common local IP address formats include:

192.168.x.x
10.x.x.x

If Windows Firewall blocks the server from accessing the network, you must allow the server through the current network profile. Otherwise, other devices may be unable to connect even when the dedicated server is running correctly.

What Are the Limits of a Physical LAN?

A physical LAN requires all players to connect to the same local network. For example, everyone may connect to the same home Wi-Fi network, dormitory router, or Ethernet switch. Players can then try to connect using the server computer’s local IP address.

The following situations usually do not count as one physical LAN:

  • One player uses home Wi-Fi while another uses a mobile hotspot.
  • Players connect to routers in different locations.
  • Everyone can access the internet, but their devices are on different private networks.
  • The router has wireless client isolation enabled, preventing devices from communicating with each other.

Therefore, being able to access the internet does not mean that everyone is on the same LAN. If players are connected to different networks, entering a local IP such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x usually cannot establish a connection.

How to Play Palworld in LAN Mode Across Different Networks?

If your friends live in different cities or connect through different routers, a physical LAN cannot be used directly. You need a virtual LAN to place remote devices into the same private network environment.

GearUP LAN Play supports this type of cross-network multiplayer. After players join the same GearUP Network, the tool uses dedicated traffic channels and relay nodes to handle connectivity between different networks. This gives remote devices connection conditions that are closer to being on the same local network.

As a result, friends in different locations can try to connect to Palworld using the same LAN-based approach without separately configuring a public IP address, port forwarding, or complicated NAT settings. The dedicated traffic path can also avoid some unstable public routes, helping reduce latency and the risk of connection interruptions in certain situations.

GearUP LAN Play does not turn Palworld into a new public server. Instead, it addresses the problem of players wanting to use a LAN-style connection even though they are not connected to the same physical network. For a fixed group of friends, it can make cross-network LAN connections easier to establish and help maintain a more stable multiplayer experience.

How Are Online Mode and LAN Multiplayer Different?

Both options support multiplayer exploration, combat, resource gathering, and base building, but they are better suited to different situations.

LAN connections usually have a shorter network path, which can provide lower latency and more consistent synchronization. When friends play in the same location, actions such as building bases, collecting resources, and fighting wild Pals may feel more responsive. A private LAN world is also less likely to be affected by strangers.

Online mode is better suited to worlds that need to stay available over a longer period. A continuously running dedicated server allows players to enter the base, organize resources, or continue construction at different times without waiting for the host to come online. It is also more suitable for larger groups and players who want to interact with other members of a community.

However, online mode is more affected by server location, server load, and cross-region routing. If the server is far away or the connection route is unstable, players may experience character rubber-banding, delayed actions, or slower Pal synchronization.

LAN is not automatically better in every situation either. If the server runs on one player’s computer, other players cannot enter when that computer is turned off or the server stops. LAN also cannot directly connect friends in different locations. Cross-network play requires an additional virtual networking solution.

Important Things to Know About Palworld LAN Multiplayer

  • A multiplayer world and a dedicated server provide different experiences. A multiplayer world usually depends on the host staying online, while a dedicated server can run independently and is more suitable for long-term play.
  • All players and the server should use compatible versions. Version mismatches may prevent players from joining or cause loading failures and connection interruptions.
  • A LAN save is not automatically the same as an online server save. World data, characters, buildings, and Pals are usually connected to specific save or server files. Back up the save before migration, and do not assume that all content will transfer automatically.
  • A local IP address only works within the current private network. Addresses such as 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x cannot directly connect players who are using different networks.
  • The host computer can still affect gameplay. LAN can shorten the network path, but it cannot fix insufficient server hardware, heavy base activity, or performance problems caused by too many simultaneous players.
  • Try direct IP and port connections if the server does not appear in the list. Automatic discovery may be affected by firewall permissions, network adapters, or the way the server is detected by the game.
  • A virtual LAN cannot solve every connection problem. Even if remote players have joined the same virtual network, they may still be unable to connect if the game versions, server settings, or firewall permissions are incorrect.
  • Platform login requirements still apply. LAN multiplayer does not remove Steam, Xbox, or other platform account verification requirements.
