AION 2: Which Server Should You Pick

A friend says they play AION 2 on Taiwan. Someone else tells you to download it through Steam. Then you find the PURPLE launcher and wonder whether that is another version of the game.

These names describe different things. Global, Taiwan, and Korea are separate regional services. Steam and PURPLE are platforms used to download and launch the game. Choose your service first, then decide which launcher to use.

That choice affects who you can play with, which devices you can use, and how far your connection must travel to reach the game server. Sorting this out before character creation can save you from spending days in the wrong service.

What Is the Difference Between Global, Taiwan, and Korea?

These are not three login options you can freely move between. Do not create a character in Korea or Taiwan because you expect to transfer it to Global later. A shared game title does not mean character transfers exist between regional services.

Global Does Not Mean One Worldwide Server

“Global” does not mean every player connects to one giant server. According to the developer FAQ, confirmed server locations include North America, South America, Europe, and Japan.

Even after choosing Global, you and your friends still need to agree on a server region. Using an English interface does not mean your character is on a North American server, and choosing Japanese text does not automatically place you on a Japanese world.

If your group is starting from scratch, Global is worth considering when its server locations and supported languages fit everyone. Agreeing on a region before downloading is much easier than trying to find each other afterward.

Several Global dates are also easy to confuse:

• September 17–18: Planned Launch Scale Test
• September 30: Early access for eligible Founder's Pack purchases
• October 5: Scheduled full launch

A test invitation is not the same as full launch access. Check the event rules before assuming that a test character will become your permanent character.

Language support also deserves attention. The current Steam page lists English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Korean. Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are not currently listed. Check the live store page and official announcements again before downloading if Chinese support is important to you.

Taiwan: Better for Players Who Need Chinese Information or Mobile Access

Taiwan has its own official website, announcements, and download channels. For players who prefer Chinese information, maintenance notices, event rules, guild recruitment posts, and store details are easier to follow.

It also supports both PC and mobile devices. This is an important difference from the currently announced PC-only Global version. If you want to play on a phone or prefer receiving official information in Traditional Chinese, Taiwan may be the more practical choice.

Taiwan has already been live for some time. If your friends or an established guild are already there, joining them is usually more important than comparing every version in isolation. If you are starting alone, look at the community language, active hours, and whether beginner-friendly guilds are available.

Taiwan is not simply “Global with Traditional Chinese text.” Events, store content, service rules, and operational schedules should always be checked through Taiwan’s own official channels.

Korea: Choose It for an Existing Community or Korean-Language Comfort

Korea makes sense for two types of players: those whose friends or guild already play there, and those who are comfortable with Korean official information, group environments, and service schedules. Its official channels provide PURPLE downloads for PC as well as mobile access.

Do not choose it only because someone calls it the “original” or “main” version. That label does not tell you whether the account process is convenient, whether you can follow the language, whether its active hours fit your schedule, or whether your connection will be stable.

Korean guides also need context. Class builds and combat advice may still be useful, but Korean event dates, store offers, and service rules do not automatically apply to Global or Taiwan.

Is PURPLE Another AION 2 Version?

No. PURPLE is NCSOFT’s gaming platform, not a fourth AION 2 region.

The PC download process for Taiwan and Korea directs players to install PURPLE, then download and launch AION 2 through it. Global has also been announced for both Steam and PURPLE.

That means “I play through PURPLE” is not enough information for a friend to find you. You still need to know their service, server region, and world name.

If most of your games are already on Steam, managing AION 2 there may be more convenient. If you already use NCSOFT’s platform, PURPLE may feel more familiar. Neither launcher choice determines your in-game latency.

You should also treat cross-play, shared character progress, and shared purchases as separate questions. Players being able to play together across platforms does not automatically mean characters or paid content can move freely between them.

Official information confirms that Global Steam and PURPLE players use the same servers and can play together. However, account-linking details, character use, store items, and Founder's Pack rules should still be checked in the current official terms. Do not buy the same content twice based on an assumption that everything will transfer.

Confirm These Details Before Creating a Character With Friends

Do not only ask, “Are you playing Taiwan or Steam?” Confirm these details before character creation:

• Service: Global, Taiwan, or Korea
• Global server region: North America, South America, Europe, or Japan
• Specific world name
• Faction
• Usual play hours
• Main language and guild environment

Language matters beyond the settings menu. You need to understand guild recruitment, event instructions, and unexpected maintenance announcements. A server may look attractive on paper but still be a poor long-term fit if every dungeon group takes too much effort to organize.

Ask guild members when they normally play as well. A large community is not very useful if everyone logs off when you come online.

For purchases, always read the offer for your intended service and storefront. Do not use a Korean store screenshot to estimate Global costs, and do not assume a pack purchased through one launcher will automatically appear on another.

Is a Distant Server Worth Joining for Friends?

If your friends, guild, or premade party are all on servers that are far from you, cross-region connections may be a cost you have to accept when choosing a service region. Q: Is AION 2 Global available on mobile?

Q: Can I transfer a Korean or Taiwanese character to Global?

Do not make your decision based on that expectation. No confirmed official character-transfer route has been announced. Unless NCSOFT explicitly introduces one later, treat these as separate services.

Q: Does choosing Steam put me on a separate regional service?

No. Steam is an announced PC platform for Global, not a separate geographic service. Steam and PURPLE account, character, and purchase rules still need to be checked through current official information.

There is no single answer for every player. Your physical location and your ISP’s route both affect the result. First narrow the options to services that fit you and your friends, then test the actual connection instead of relying on someone else’s ping screenshot.
