AION 2 Download Region Restriction Unlock Guide
Preface
According to the latest official information, the Steam version of AION 2 has added download restrictions for 18 countries and regions. If you see “This item is currently unavailable in your region” on its store page, don’t keep trying; what you need is a truly effective unlock method, such as the detailed tutorial provided in this article.
Which Regions are Restricted?
At the time this article was published, the following countries and regions cannot download the Steam version:
Aruba, Belarus, Belgium, Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba, Cuba, Curaçao, Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Netherlands, Russian Federation, Serbia, Sint Maarten (Dutch part), Slovakia, South Korea, Syria, Taiwan, Vietnam.
You have two ways to resolve the restriction.
Option 1: Create a New Account
You can register a new Steam account. When registering, remember to
- Choose a region that is not in the blocked list
- Bind a valid payment method
Then log into that account and add the game to the library. The downside is that libraries are not shared between accounts, to play games you bought on your original account you will need to switch back.
Option 2: Use GearUP
If switching accounts is inconvenient, GearUP can help you switch the store to the United States to add the game to your library.
The steps are simple:
- Completely exit Steam
- Open GearUP, search for Aion2, and apply the booster titled "Boost to US Steam to Unlock Aion 2".
- Restart Steam, then go to your profile and click Wallet, you will find you can switch the currency to United States dollars.
- Select United States and search for "Aion2" again in the store, if you can see the game, the region has been temporarily switched successfully. The next steps are critical.
To add Aion2 to your library you must change your account's region. Under Steam's current rules, a paid transaction is required for the region change to take effect, so you have two choices.
Please note: after changing your account region and purchasing a game, there is a three month cooldown before you can switch back. After the cooldown you can switch back by repeating the process and purchasing a game with your local currency, make sure VPN is turned off when doing so.
Method 1: Go to the Aion2 store page, purchase the "FOUNDER'S PACK" and complete payment, this will switch your account region and add the game to your library.
Method 2: Search for the cheapest game in the store, usually around one dollar, purchase it successfully, this will trigger the region change, after which you can search for and add Aion2 normally.
Based on the situation with servers in South Korea and Taiwan, IPs from banned countries will most likely also be unable to access the game servers. In that case, you will also need to use GearUP to help you connect to the game servers and maintain a stable, low-latency connection.
Can I change my account region directly in Settings?
No. Steam now enforces strict region change rules. You must add an item to the cart and complete payment at checkout to switch store country or region, the switch becomes effective only after payment, and you cannot change region again for three months. This restriction is mainly to prevent players from abusing cross region pricing differences.
Can a VPN help change the region?
Valve explicitly forbids using VPNs to spoof geographic location to change store region; violations can result in account reversal or even bans.
Is GearUP safe? Yes, GearUP is different from a VPN, rather than merely changing your IP it optimizes routing through nodes to help you connect to United States servers and complete the switch.
Overall, AION 2's region restrictions appear to be long term and may expand. If your region is not yet restricted, buy the game as soon as possible. If you are in a restricted region, GearUP might be worth trying.
