Rainbow Six Siege assigns you to a data center based on your detected location, but the detection isn't always accurate. Players moving between regions, those near data center boundaries, or anyone experiencing poor latency to their assigned server need a way to manually switch. The game doesn't provide this option in its menus — but the setting exists in a configuration file that you can edit directly.
This guide explains why auto-detection fails, how to change your data center, and what to do after making the switch.
Why Auto-Detection Fails
Siege's data center selection uses IP-based geolocation to determine your region. This approach has several failure points:
VPN usage — If you use a VPN for other purposes, Siege detects the VPN's exit node location instead of your actual position. This can assign you to a server on the other side of the world.
ISP routing anomalies — Some ISPs route international traffic through unexpected paths. Your traffic might exit through a different country, causing Siege to detect the wrong region.

How to Change Your Data Center

Changing your data center isn't the end of the process. You've selected a server, but you still need to ensure your connection to it is good.
Test your ping to the new server. If you switched because of latency issues, verify that the new server actually provides better performance. Sometimes the auto-assigned server was correct, and the latency issue lies elsewhere in your network.
